ocsalev is the solo project of composer and visual artist Rodrigo RamĂrez Velasco (Mexico City, 1988), based between Mexico City and Montreal. Previously performing under the names R Velasco and yecto,
the project consolidated as ocsalev in 2024, explores the synesthetic dialogue between sound and image through generative systems, real-time improvisation, and contemplative practice. Drawing from ambient music, contemporary jazz, and experimental traditions, ocsalev creates sonic architectures where algorithmic processes and human intuition converge.
Through hardware synthesis, custom Max for Live patches, and TouchDesigner-based visual systems, ocsalev crafts immersive audiovisual environments that treat code as gesture, synthesis as language, and performance as practice. The work has been presented across Brazil, Canada, the UK, Spain, and Mexico, including performances at MUTEK Montreal and collaborations with projects like Metaritmos and Sinapsis.
As ocsalev, Rodrigo explores listening as a form
of thought and technology as a vessel for accessing interior landscapes—creating conditions to perceive what vibrates, repeats, transforms, and escapes perception.
